Spring into action!

It's been a busy spring so far for the ARK Eastleigh team.  After delivering 300 Easter Eggs to local families we organised trips to Marwell Zoo and Royal Victoria Country Park as well as another ARK Cafe.  These have provided great opportunities for families to enjoy some fun together.

We've been sourcing furniture and clearing outside spaces, taking people to hospital appointments as well as all the usual befriending that goes on every week.  Sometimes we immediately see the difference we've made when we've helped clear a garden or delivered food from the Basics Bank but you cannot always see the impact of taking time to listen and the lives that have been changed because of that kindness.

Overcoming loneliness

It was great to spend time with our local MP, Mims Davies, recently and consider how we can tackle loneliness in our community.  The meeting was arranged by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation (HIWCF) and we were pleased to have the chance to share the work we are doing in the Eastleigh area with Mims, Grant Cornwell MBE (Chief Exec, HIWCF) and Jonathon Cheshire OBE (Chairman, HIWCF).  We are so appreciative of their support for ARK Eastleigh.

Christmas Hampers delivered!

A huge thanks to all our supporters for raising nearly £2,000 for our Christmas Hamper distribution. Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who sorted hampers and delivered them on the 21st December, a task made much easier by Tesco who sorted so much into the crates for us.

This Christmas we have delivered 56 full hampers, 17 love hampers and 24 sacks of presents donated by Wave 105.   They made such a difference to those struggling in our community.

Christmas 2018 - Hamper Appeal

Each year we help families and individuals in need to have a blessed Christmas. Delivering hampers with all the goodies needed to have a fabulous Christmas Day. Turkey and trimmings, plum pudding, cake, chocolates, christmas crackers and more.  We also distribute toys donated by WAVE 105.

These hampers make such a difference to families and individuals. People are so touched by the unconditional love shown and overwhelmed to know that someone cares about them.

Garden rescue!

We have the most amazing volunteers who are prepared to do pretty much anything to help those who need it.  Recently we've been helping a client clear their garden.  Many of our clients struggle to keep on top of garden maintenance because of ill health or a lack of garden tools and know how.  This can put tenancies at risk or means that children don't have a safe outside space to play in.  If you're interested in helping please get in touch with one of the team (see the who's who? page).

HOPE Week 9th - 15th July 2018

ARK Eastleigh's volunteers once again brought HOPE to local residents this July.  Volunteers helped tame gardens and decorate homes as well as providing opportunities for people to get together and make new friends.

Thank you to all the wonderful people that made this possible!

Our wonderful volunteers!

We couldn't provide our much needed services without our amazing volunteer team.  They willingly give up their time to befriend our clients and offer practical help with gardening and DIY.   Five of our regular volunteers were recently nominated to receive certificates from the Mayor of Eastleigh at the One Community presentation evening on 5th June 2018.  To be awarded a certificate volunteers had to give 100 hours of service or have volunteered for a year.  Well done to all of them!

Fun in the holidays

One thing we love doing at ARK Eastleigh is organising trips out in the holidays for families.  So far this year we have been to Marwell Zoo and Fort Nelson and are looking forward to a trip to the seaside in August.  Many of the families we work with would struggle to afford a day out together or perhaps find it difficult to get to places as many have to reply on public transport.  It's great to see parents and children enjoying time together supported by our volunteers.  Helping people take a break from the often overwhelming challenges they face is a great privilege.

Easter 2018

Many thanks to our supporters and local churches for the donations of eggs we received this Easter.  We were overwhelmed by the response and delivered nearly 200 Easter eggs to local families who would otherwise have gone without.  It makes such a difference to families that are facing really tough challenges to know that there are people who care about them in their community.

Easter 2018

Many of the families that we support at ARK Eastleigh aren't able to afford treats at Easter or feel isolated and uncared for because of physical or mental health issues or are in a new neighbourhood having escaped domestic violence.  We will be collecting donations of eggs from local churches over the next couple of weeks to bless these people together with messages of Easter hope.  If you would like to help us do this you can make a donation on our event page on MyDonate here.  Thanks so much for your help - it makes such a difference!

Pancake fun at half-term

We had a wonderful pancake day at the Methodist Church in Eastleigh, eating pancakes, making Valentine cards and incredible origami boxes from old Christmas cards, (ask Bruce!) Everybody had at least one pancake. Some were trying pancakes for the first time!

Providing a safe space for parents, carers and children to spend time together enjoying fun activities makes a big difference and gives people a break from the tough challenges they face.

Introducing our new Senior Team Leader

We are really excited to introduce our new Senior Team Leader, Julie Sisley.  Julie joined us as a volunteer in 2017 and brings a wealth of experience from running pastoral teams at Thrive Church in Eastleigh.  Please join us in welcoming her to the team!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

What an amazing response we had to our Hamper appeal! Generous churches, businesses and individuals donated more than £3,300 enabling us to deliver over 70 hampers to families and individuals in need this Christmas.

Thank you to the amazing team of volunteers who helped organise and deliver Christmas presents and food hampers, donated beautiful Christmas cakes and made Christmas cards.  Thanks to Wave 105 for donating Christmas presents, Tesco for organising the food hampers and to Crestwood School for the use of their sports hall.

Here are just a few of the thanks messages we received.

"What you did for me and my daughter was truelly amazing there are wonderfull people in this world and i cant thank you enough xxx"

Marwell trip

We give thanks to God for a really lovely day out this week at  Marwell Zoo.The sun shone, the animals entertained and it was good to be with clients and their families. We trust that relationships were enhanced and good memories were made. God is indeed good.

Trip to Manor Farm:  February Half Term

On the Tuesday of half term, we took a lovely set of families on a trip to Manor Farm. With the oldest child being 14 and the youngest 3 months, there was plenty to please everyone from stroking and feeding the animals, making a pine cone bird feeder as well as exploring the old school House and playing on the adventure playground. After a chilly morning, it was rounded off by Hot Chocolate , fruit and cookies that we had brought with us. Our thanks to Manor Farm for all their help, and to our ever generous Volunteers for helping transport the families and for helping to build memories with them.

Trip to see Fantastic Mr Fox at The Nuffield Theatre.

On December 20th we took 31 adults and children to see Fantastic Mr Fox at The Nuffield Theatre in Southampton, thanks to some funding we received from the HIWCF.  Volunteers kindly drove the families to the theatre, and once parking had been found for everyone, seats were found, and excited faces waited for the musical play to begin! It was amazing, and all the families found the play very engaging right across the age groups.

At half time, the families enjoyed snacks and some fox books that Caroline had brought with her, before settling down once again.

To be able to take so many to see live theatre was a golden opportunity, and we all had a brilliant afternoon and built many happy memories.

ARK Angels at The Ageas Bowl

On Sunday 4th December, ARK joined the Christmas Festival held at The Ageas Bowl. There they joined other churches and activities by doing Acts of Random Kindness (buying coffees, paying for rides for Children) as well as giving out small gifts and offering some individual prayers. It was a great local event, and Caroline, Lucy and volunteers looked very angelic and were much appreciated.

Theatre Trip

On Wednesday 1st June 34 guests and 5 volunteers travelled up to Winchester by train to see Jungle Book at Winchester Theatre Royal. Many had never been to the theatre before so it was a real treat. We had a moment of worry when it was announced that the train was running 25 minutes late however all was well as we arrived at the theatre with 10 minutes to spare, phew!!

The production was a modern adaptation with Baloo as a beat boxing bin man and Bagheera as a graffiti artist. Mowgli found her way through the urban jungle performing some amazing circus tricks and street dancing. During the interval we passed fruit juices and boxes of sweets and chocolates along the rows of seats making us feel like one big beautiful family. It was a great day out, a brilliant experience and successfully built happy memories.

We would like to say thank you to councillor Lyon for the grant that enabled us to facilitate the trip and a huge thank you to the wonderful volunteers who give so much of their time, energy and love to help people feel and know that they are special and precious.

Easter Fun

During the Easter Holidays we took several families to Victoria Country Park.

Despite the weather we had a great time, playing on the play equipment, riding on the train, eating a yummy shared picnic and then enjoying the Netley Shore and all the discoveries to be made there!

ARK in Action

We accompany people to all types of appointments including visiting the Eastleigh Council Offices with regards to housing issues. Some people find they lose their ability to speak up when life crushes them. We hold their hand during these difficult times and help to empower them to find their voice.

When crisis hits people sometimes the home and garden become neglected. We have a wonderful gardening team who work hard to transform and clear gardens to enable them to be enjoyed again. Many children can now have fun in the garden thanks to the team. If you can spare one day a month to help maintain gardens please get in touch.

Summer Fun - new experiences

This summer saw us taking some young people for treats, activities and experiences they would not have otherwise been able to enjoy. Trips to an Ice Cream Parlour, Bowling, Cinema, Restaurants, Southampon Football Stadium, Rocknations Youth Conference Bradford and under 17 driving lessons.

These life changing, life enhancing, memory building opportunities have made a huge difference in these young peoples lives. Young people who have experienced and witnessed things in their short lives that children should never have to go through. These trips have brought hope into their lives.

A huge thank you to the sponsors - individual generous people, Gospel Hall Church Fair Oak, First Wessex, Eastleigh Churches Together and the funds from St Mary's and St Pauls' church Bishopstoke from their Cream Tea Afternoon for making all this possible.

Horse Riding - Building Confidence

We have the privilege of taking six children horse riding once a term for a six week course. The children absolutely love the experience. It gives them a chance to learn a new skill, have fun, forget their worries and build happy memories. For some it is a wonderful experience for others it can be life changing as has proved the case in our latest group. It can also help a child engage more with school and therefore has a positive effect on their education.

We are grateful to One Community for providing transport that one of our loyal volunteer's has driven regularly. We are also grateful to a super volunteer who gives of her time and also brings the snacks and drinks for the riders and not forgetting the carrot snacks for the horses. Thank You Quob Stables for continuing to partner with us, for the superb tuition, support and love.

A day at Marwell Zoo, Easter 2015

A fabulous day was spent at Marwell Zoo. The sun shone brightly on the 16 young people and volunteers who had a wonderful time meeting the animals. The meerkats posed for photographs, the giraffes elegantly strolled around nonchalantly, and the cute fluffy tarantula enjoyed causing a stir!

These days out are a lifeline to the children who are living in very difficult circumstances and have experienced great hardship. Please consider donating to enable us to continue to offer these well needed, happy memory building outings.

Bowling trip, February half term

A great time was had on Thursday during half term when volunteers took some young people bowling followed by lunch at Wells Place Eastleigh. One of our teens impressed us all with a double strike, another got a strike or a spare nearly everytime she bowled, she had a very interesting' flick of the wrist' action. One 14 year old had never been bowling before and loved it. We can't show faces but we can show the hands that bowled. We had great fun producing these photos. The outing was a real success.
